The 12 houses: where life happens in your chart

If planets are the characters of your sky and signs are their manner, houses are the stage: the areas of life where each one acts.

What houses are

The birth chart divides the sky into twelve slices starting from your ascendant — the houses. Each rules a territory of life: the first speaks of identity and presence; the second, of resources and money; the seventh, of partnerships and marriage; the tenth, of career and reputation — and so on, up to the twelfth.

A planet gains context from the house it falls in. Venus in the fifth house loves like a celebration; Venus in the tenth, like someone building in public. That combination — planet, sign and house — is what makes your chart yours.

The houses that do heavy lifting in readings

In an Astronna reading, some houses work hardest: the 1st (with the ascendant) opens the chapter on who you are; the 4th sustains the emotions chapter alongside the Moon; the 5th and 7th carry love; the 2nd and 10th, career and money, with the Midheaven, Saturn and Jupiter as witnesses.

Because houses are born from the ascendant, they also depend on the exact birth time — without it they become approximate, and the reading says so.
